Peterlee Town Council was formed in 1974 and is made up of 22 Members representing the five wards of Peterlee. Representation is as follows:

Committee meetings are held on the first and second Monday evening of each month (excluding May and August) in the Council Chamber, Shotton Hall, Old Shotton, Peterlee, Co. Durham. SR8 2PH. The Council meeting is held at 7.30p.m. on the third Monday of each month.
All meetings are open to the public.
Peterlee is situated in the District of Easington, whose main council offices are at Seaside Lane, Easington (tel: 0191) 5270501). A local office is also located in Peterlee. The District Council is the housing authority for the area and administer other services such as Economic Development, Planning, Refuse Collection and Environmental Health.
Both Peterlee and Easington District lie within the Administrative County of Durham. Durham County Council is the Principal Authority and its offices are based at County Hall, Durham. (Tel: 0191 3864411). It administers major services such as Education, Social Services, Arts, Libraries and Museums.
