Peterlee Town Council is a Burial Authority and developed Peterlee Cemetery at Eden Lane in 1992. Since then, to date (November 2016), the Cemetery has had 817 interments. As Peterlee is a New Town, a number of it’s older residents are originally from neighbouring villages and some have a preference to be buried in cemeteries in their ‘home’ village. The Town Council pays and annual contribution to Horden Parish Council towards the cost of maintaining Horden Cemetery.
In recent years, the Town Council has made several additional services and facilities available including a new Remembrance Garden, and facilities for cremated remains. A new Cemetery Office, public toilets, access roads and walkways have also been installed. In 2002/2003 we carried out further works to improve access/egress, landscaping and seating works.

Memorial Tree and Seat Scheme
Since the opening of the Cemetery in 1992, Peterlee Cemetery has developed into a beautiful area of peace and tranquility which is maintained to very high standards. Peterlee Town Council is keen to make townsfolk aware of the cemetery’s existence and of the new scheme in place whereby members of the public can purchase either a memorial tree or seat from the Council, then donate it to the Cemetery or Woodhouse Park for others to enjoy.
For further information about this scheme, please contact the Cemetery Officer on 0191 518 2295
