Peterlee Town Council is a Burial Authority and developed Peterlee Cemetery at Eden Lane in 1992.
In recent years, the Town Council has made several additional services and facilities available including a new Remembrance Garden, and facilities for cremated remains. A new Cemetery Office, public toilets, access roads and walkways have also been installed. In 2002/2003 we carried out further works to improve access/egress, landscaping and seating works. We’re very happy to confirm that the Cemetery has been recently been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for 2020/21. The Green Flag Award® scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
The Cemetery Team work hard to maintain the Cemetery and provide an efficient and dignified burial service, and the Green Flag Award is welcome recognition of this hard work and the Town Council’s ongoing commitment to provide great services and facilities for the people of Peterlee.

Memorial Tree and Seat Scheme
Since the opening of the Cemetery in 1992, Peterlee Cemetery has developed into a beautiful area of peace and tranquility which is maintained to very high standards. Peterlee Town Council is keen to make local residents aware of the cemetery’s existence and the opportunity to purchase either a memorial tree or seat from the Council, then donate it to the Cemetery or Woodhouse Park for others to enjoy.
