Peterlee Town Council has an annual budget of £11,000.00 available for grants to local community groups and other organisations that work in the town.
The funding is available to help groups meet the costs of events, services or equipment that are for the benefit of the people of Peterlee.
There are some basic rules:
– Grants are usually only available for groups and organisations, and not individuals (applications for grant funding for individuals may sometimes be considered, in exceptional circumstances);
– At least half of the users of the event/service/equipment for which you are seeking a grant must come from the town;
– You will be asked to supply some basic financial information to enable the Council to assess the financial position of the group or organisation making the grant bid;
– You will be asked to explain how your event/service/equipment will benefit the people of Peterlee;
– If you are successful in accessing the funding, you will be required to provide a written report on how the grant was used within 6 months of receipt;
– You will not be able to apply for further funding within 12 months of a successful application.
To apply for a Neighbourhood Engagement Project grant please contact us at council@peterlee.gov.uk or by phone 0191 5862491. You can also request a fund application form through your local ward councillor.
When your completed application forms are received we will verify the basic details and qualification criteria, and then submit the applications (redacted to remove any sensitive personal data) to the Council’s Resources Committee or full Council meeting for consideration. In normal cases, we will try to get you a decision within a month of submission of your application, but in some cases it may take longer – particularly if we need to ask you for some more information about your application.
Members attending the meeting are able to allocate some, all, or none of their annual £500.00 allowance to each application. Generally speaking if the application comes from a local community group the immediate Ward Councillors will make a contribution, but, often applications are so well received that members from across the town will support them.
We are currently working on publishing a live schedule of grant applications and allocations of funding and this is expected to be live on this website from summer 2018. In the meantime, successful grants in the past year include:
– Social activity costs for a local Mencap group
– Strip sponsorship for a local youth football team
– Funding for after school sports clubs in Peterlee
– Funding for a Peterlee secondary school’s Duke of Edinburgh Award equipment and transport fees
– A new tend for a local Scouts group
