Peterlee Soapbox Bogey Derby

Petelee Town Council is thrilled to confirm the second Peterlee Soapbox Bogey Derby event will be held in Peterlee on Saturday 1st August 2020.

The event:

Build it.  Bring it.  Race it.

Business, charities, clubs, families and individuals are invited to build their own soapbox/bogey kart and race it down our 150 metre track at Woodhouse Park in Peterlee.   The track is a gentle downhill with a chicane that takes requires sharp steering – and do you dare take on the jump of DOOOOM?!   Our intrepid test team have completed the run in a little over 30 seconds and reached a max speed of 18mph – how fast you go is entirely up to you.

Your kart must be gravity powered: no pedals, motors, springs or rockets.  You are allowed a short push-start from two team mates if you want one, or you can use our launch ramp to get you off to a flying start.

Teams must enter in advance by no later than Tuesday 30th June 2020.  Numbers are strictly limited and it’s first come, first served so please get your skates on and register for your place as soon as possible.  You can register online using the form at the bottom of this page.

The Location:

Woodhouse Park, Balliol Close, Peterlee SR8 2NX

Times:

Approximate times (to be confirmed)

8.30am – Park opens for competitors only to unload karts and go through scrutineering to ensure that they are safe for racing and comply with our rules.

10.30am – all karts must be in their allocated pit lane, and have passed scrutineering.

11am – the park opens to the public, and practice runs begin

12pm first timed round

1pm – second timed round

2pm – third timed round

3.30pm – prize giving

Prizes:

Fastest karts – first prize (£50); second prize (£30); third prize (£20)

Best Bogey – voted for by spectators on the day (£50)

Best dressed/most entertaining team – voted for by spectators on the day (£50)

Spot prizes – various spot prizes awarded to teams and karts during the event (5x£10)

(N.B. Peterlee Town Council members and staff and their immediate family may enter the event but are not eligible for any of the cash prizes.)

 

Entry fees:

Business/sponsored entries: £50 

This enables business or other organisations to enter a kart with logos and other promotional messages.

Charities & Community Groups: £20 

This enables charities and community groups to enter a kart with logos and other promotional messages to help promote their cause.

Individual & Family: £10

This enables private individuals to enter a kart without any endorsements or advertising (other non-commercial decorations are allowed!)

All logos and messages must be appropriate for a public family event please.
